Jorge Martin's MotoGP Comeback: Buriram Test & 2026 Season Preview (2026)

Former MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin is on the verge of a highly anticipated return to the sport, with the upcoming pre-season test at Buriram, Thailand, offering a glimmer of hope for his fans. After a challenging debut season with Aprilia, marked by a series of injuries, Martin is now one step closer to getting back on the track.

The Spaniard's journey to recovery has been a long and arduous one. He suffered a string of injuries during his first season with Aprilia, which unfortunately prevented him from participating in the opening test at Sepang this year. The 27-year-old underwent 'secret' follow-up surgery on his wrist and collarbone, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming test.

However, Aprilia has recently announced that Martin's latest medical check-up has yielded positive results. The team confirmed that Martin will travel to Thailand with the intention of participating in the test, marking a significant milestone in his recovery process.

'Today Jorge Martín underwent a medical check to the left hand and right collarbone at the Hospital Ruber Internacional,' Aprilia stated. 'The medical check was positive, therefore he will travel to Buriram, Thailand, next week to take part in the Buriram Test.'

While Martin is yet to receive official clearance from the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Medical Team, his presence at the test is a promising sign. If declared fit to ride, Buriram will witness Martin's first on-track appearance since the Valencia post-race test last year.

The Chang International Circuit will then host the opening round of the 2026 MotoGP season the following weekend, adding to the excitement surrounding Martin's potential return. His teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, has already made a strong impression at the Sepang test, putting Aprilia in second place on the timesheets.

Martin's injuries have been a significant concern, with him starting just eight of the 22 rounds last year and claiming a best result of fourth. However, his resilience and determination have not gone unnoticed, and he has been linked with a factory Yamaha seat for 2027. With his potential return to MotoGP, the sport is set to witness a thrilling comeback story, leaving fans eagerly awaiting his on-track performance.
